~Colored Rice Shamrock~
My little guy loves playing with uncooked rice so this project was his favorite. I started by enlarging a free shamrock image from supercoloring.com and printing it out on a sheet of cardstock. You can print the image here already enlarged to fit a standard 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper.
Next you’ll need to color your plain uncooked rice. Just scoop a bit in a bowl and add few drops of regular food coloring. A little rice goes a long way.
Let your little ones in on the fun of mixing if you are not worried about them having green fingernails for a few days. The color absorbs pretty quickly into the rice.
Working in small sections squirt some white glue inside the shamrock and use a paint brush to spread the glue around.
Let your little ones go to town sprinkling the rice over the glue. {it’s a good idea to work on a cookie sheet to help somewhat control those tiny grains of rice – it helps with the clean up as well} Once covered gently pat over the area to assure you have a good hold. Shake off the excess and repeat until you have a lucky green shamrock.
Don’t put your rice away just yet. Every lucky leprechaun needs a rainbow, right? Again, I started by enlarging a free rainbow image from eprintables.com and printing on a sheet of cardstock. You can print the rainbow here already enlarged to fit a standard sheet of paper.
For this ‘masterpiece’ I began by cutting five shamrock shapes from plain white cardstock.
Scoop a little of each color on the shamrocks and let your little one mix the magical transformation right before their eyes. Again, I used an old cookie sheet as our working surface to protect the furniture and help with cleanup. I admit I had to do one shamrock myself…I could resist the fun!
I had to let our dry overnight as we used gobs and gobs of paint. They dry with a cool tie-dye appearance ~ something a little different then your straight bright green. I created the letters to spell ‘LUCKY’ in a publishing program and simply printed, cut out and glued on top of each shamrock with a glue stick. You can print the LUCKY letters here.
There is no better way to capture those tiny finger memories than a handprint ~ and you all know I love handprints. This one is quick and easy. I found another free shamrock image at thecoloringspot.com, enlarged and printed on a sheet of plain cardstock. You can print the enlarged image here. Paint up those small chubby fingers with some green paint and ‘hand print’ away!
I am finally so glad to be back! I have recovered almost everything from my computer failure with only a few losses here and there. Reloading all my programs took a little longer than expected. A quick reminder to back up all your files…frequently. If you are like me you need a reminder! I have a couple more kiddie art projects to post tomorrow so see you then. Enjoy!
~Part Two can be found here~
