Special Delivery ~ PBK Valentine’s Mailbox Inspiration

Who doesn’t love to get mail? {Well the good mail I should say ~ cards, love letters & special notes..oh, and catalogs}

I have had this mailbox from PBK in my inspiration file forever. They have not made it the past two years and now that my baby is old enough for his own mailbox I had to re-create this precious little cutie.
This adorable wooden mailbox was found at Joanne Fabrics for $7.99 and the base I used is actually a candlestick from the Dollar Tree.
I started by removing the flag from the mailbox which is attached with a tiny screw. The candlestick and flag received a good coat of Apple Barrel Red Spice {20540} acrylic paint. While that was drying the mailbox itself was painted Metallic Silver by Delta Ceramcoat.
Once everything was dry the two pieces were attached together with Gorilla Glue and sat overnight. I then painted ‘MAIL’ on the front using a cardstock stencil I created. You can print out the stencil here {simply click on link, right click on image and select ‘print picture’} I used a mix of black and white acrylic paint to create a dark grayish color for the stencil.
I decide to pass on adding the personalization to the side as well as the metal label holder on the front. This mailbox must be slightly smaller than the original PBK version and just does not have enough room.
I just love the way it turned out! I made a few felt postcards for my little guy {shown in the first picture} that are the perfect little added accessory. Enjoy!
