Chick-fil-A Inspired Chicken Nuggets {with Sweet & Sour Sauce}

My husband loves Chick-fil-A Chicken nuggets. The problem is he would have to order the party platter to actually fill himself up. {seriously} I found this recipe on the internet and it is a pretty darn close replica of the delicious chicken served at Chick-fil-A. Since finding out our son is allergic to peanuts we have to skip actually going to Chick-fil-A all together right now; however, this super easy recipe is something I can make at home to satisfy my husband’s cravings.

Chickfila Inspired Chicken NuggetsIngredients Needed:
Cooking Oil {you can use Peanut but it is not necessary}
1 Egg
1 Cup of Milk
1 Cup of Flour
2 1/2 Tablespoons of Powdered Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Pepper
I Tablespoon of Salt
2 Skinless Boneless Chicken Breast, cut in strips or cubed

Mix together Egg and Milk.

Place cut chicken in mixture and let sit.

While the chicken is sitting, in a separate bowl, mix together the Flour, Powdered Sugar, Pepper and Salt. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture. I always like to double coat the chicken so I repeat these two steps.

Heat the oil to 375 degrees. You can use a deep fryer or I simply heat in a frying pan on the stove top. The coating makes the oil pretty messy and I just prefer to use a frying pan and discard the oil afterwards. Gently drop your chicken pieces in the heated oil and cook until golden brown.

Yummy!

I usually serve with Homemade Sweet and Sour Sauce and this recipe is very good and quick enough to make while your chicken is frying!

Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce

Ingredients Needed:
3/4 Cup of White Sugar
1/4 Cup of Soy Sauce
1/3 Cup of White Vinegar
1 Tablespoon of Ketchup
2/3 Cup of Water
2 Tablespoons of Cornstarch

Directions:
Place the Sugar, Vinegar, Water, Soy Sauce, Ketchup and Cornstarch in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir continuously until mixture has thickened. You will see it turn to a gel consistency.

  18. My son has a peanut allergy too, and we were thankful to find out he can tolerate peanut oil. Apparently, it is the protein that causes allergy and this is not in the oil. We love our chick-fil-a!

  36. These are AWESOME! I even made the dipping sauce and my family loves it! Next time thought I might marinate in orange juice….it seems chic fil a nuggets have a little bit of a citrus-y taste. But these are awesome!

    • I’m wondering if you’ve tried the marinating the chicken before? I just found this recipe and can’t wait to try it but I also think CFA nuggets have a kick-y taste but hadn’t be able to put my finger on what until I read your comment… citrus!!!

  41. I just tried it. It’s so, so, so good. Much better than Chick-fil-A. I live in DC, and there’s not very many of those retaurants here, unlike in Florida, where I used to live. I made a batch of these, and ate the entire thing. I sure had my own fill of Chick-fil-A nuggets for the night…… What I could do now is make a huge batch of those flour-y mix and store it, until I need to use them.

    A suggestion: I realize since I had used chicken breast, after frying it, the meat is still quite dry even after soaking it in milk and egg mixture. I would add to the mix, a slurry of corn flour into the cut up meat. This makes the breast meat more moist and taste better. Try it.

I followed your recipe completely and they turned out great! For the frying I pan fried them in extra virgin coconut oil and it gave it a really good flavor! Thanks for this delicious recipe!

  48. Hi! Found you on Pinterest. You may already know this now, as your original post was in 2010, but your son should be able to eat at CFA. My son has a peanut allergy and eats the nuggets from there all the time. According to our allergist, 1) Peanut Oil is so highly refined that it contains very little protein, which is what causes the allergy and 2) the heating of the oil straightens out the peanut protein molecule, making it unrecognizable by the human body.

  52. The manager at my local Chick-fil-A sells me the nugget powder. I use it to make my own nuggets or to coat the entire chicken breasts. My son experimented with the coating on pototoes to create his own baked ‘tater logs’.
