Coffee Table to Bath Bench

There is not much to this makeover other the amazing power of paint. I really wanted a bench for the little guys bath and had intentions to build one; until I stumbled across this beauty in the thrift store.

Since I had previously look up some building plans, I knew the standard height for benches is between 17 and 19 inches. This table was exactly 17 inches tall making it just the right size. The 36 inch width was perfect for under the bath window and the 19 inch depth was a little bit bigger than a regular bench but would work in the space. {Tip: Standard coffee table heights range from 15-21 inches making them great perspective candidates for little benches depending upon the width.}

It seemed as if the poor table had been there quite awhile as it had been marked down several times; all the way down to $5. {Much less than the lumber would have cost}

A good cleaning and a couple rolled coats of white paint {I simply used some extra bright white trim paint} and I had the perfect little window bench that I had envisioned.

I put some towels and TP underneath for now, however I’m working on revamping a basket to hold the TP.

I had plans to make a cushion for the top, but I am not sure…what do you guys think?

  1. ooooh…I like it without the cushion.
    So clean. Love this project!!
    =)

  2. super cute! Works great!

  3. That’s fantastic! I love the crisp clean look of the white.

  4. That bench looks great. A cushion would be nice but if your boys are anything like mine it would just end up on the floor, unless you found some way to secure it to the bench.

  5. Perfect for that spot. Good find and great job finishing it.

  6. What a great idea. It’s perfect!!!

  7. Very cute! I love cushioned benches, but I would only do one on this if it was pretty thin. It really fits perfectly under that window the way it is.

  8. I love it just as it is! Perfect! :)

  9. Great steal. Fits perfectly under that window too!

If you have any halloween inspiration that you wanna share, I am having a linky party until the end of this month over here

P.S. Y’all have some big ol’ insects in your part of the country!

  11. Great makeover! I like those easy and uncomplicated types of projects. As for a cushion, I think it would look great. However being the mother of boys might I suggest one with a removable cover? (-:

  12. Love it as is. BUT you “Could” use an outdoor bench cushion on it if you could get the right size, they are outdoor proof so would certainly hold up in the bathroom. I LOVE your idea of a basket for the TP, you can get the exact one you are looking for at Home goods(HUGE selection). I got a few for my bath that had covers. again, I Love it as as, you did a grand job.

  13. Great idea. I love it just the way it is. Perfect. Hugs, Marty

  14. how sweet. I would never have thought of using a coffee table this way. Isn’t it amazing what some white paint can do?? LOVE it!

  16. Very sweet! Can’t beat that price and I love the white. So pretty and clean looking.

  17. Nice job! What a great way to utilize it. Love the white. Very fresh looking :)

  18. Great find and Great job on it! You’ve got to just love re-makes!

  19. Love your bench. This seems to work just fine without the cushion. It would probably end up on the floor all the time. Love & blessings from NC!

  20. Looks great…. what a good idea.

  21. Perfect!

  22. What a fantastic idea, Stephanie! It makes me rethink the $10.00 coffee table I passed up at the thrift store. :) Thanks so much for sharing!!

  23. Such a great bench…hard to see it as anything but a bath bench. I love it just the way it is. Thanks for sharing!

  24. What a great idea! Nice reuse of a coffee table!

  25. I think a cushion will just get wet and mildewy in the bath!

  26. How perfect with the shelf to hold the necessities!! Love it!

  27. NONE of our bathrooms have windows! oh the things you learn after buying your first home. the bench looks GREAT! i like it with no cushion on the top. but, i’m all about practicality. :)

    seriously cute!

  28. I think it’s great without the cushion! A cushion would probably stick up over the trim on the window, and my kids probably wouldnt leave the darn thing on the bench anyway.

  29. Great new use!!

  30. I love it!!!!

  31. TOTALLY lovely!!!!

  32. Awesome – you did good!!! Benches solve so many problems and are great for storage.

  33. I love it. I’ve been looking for something just like this myself. Yours is great!

  34. I love this..very cute. Never would have thought of using a coffee table for a bench. Sure changes the way to look at plain ol “Stuff”.
    Great job!!

  35. When I saw the before picture of the table – I totally thought towel storage!! It looks great and I love the bug!!

  36. If your children are small, and you have boys, and this is in the bathroom, I would not put a cushion on it. Just my opinion.

  37. I love it!

  38. I need something just like this for my bathroom! Good idea!

  39. Oh, it looks wonderful!
The last picture is just beautiful!
    Have a good night!

  43. It is perfect! I like it as is without a cushion.

  44. I love your tire swing! It brings a flood of memeories! I think your little bench looks so great…and functional too! I’m chomping at the bit, wanting to go thrift shopping. But I have to wait until we move in a couple of months. We’re selling most of our furniture before we move (yucky old broken stuff anyway). So I can’t wait to pretty up some great finds again.

  45. You were right, it’s perfect! Do you ever slow down?!

  46. Beautiful metamorphosis!!

  47. Perfectly ADORABLE ! I like it w/out the cushion because fabric and humidity from a bath might not mix too well.

Looks great – thanks for sharing !

  48. Love it! No need for a cushion, the towels add a softness to the look, and it’s nice and crisp and clean. Very nice project!

  49. I think using this table as a storage bench for the bathroom is a much better use!! And it looks terrific in fresh white :-)
    Great work!!
