Rag Fabric Flower Ornament {No.5}

Rag Fabric Flower Ornament
{Ornament Number Five}
Materials Needed:
Styrofoam Ball
Scrap Fabric
Ribbon

Begin by cutting a styrofoam ball in half with a serrated knife. {I used a three inch diameter ball}
Cut several 1 inch wide strips of scrap fabric and then cut again into 1 inch squares. {They do not have to be perfectly cut}. I used Unbleached Natural Osnaburg fabric I had on hand.

Working in small sections, squirt some white glue onto the styrofoam ball. Using the sharp end of a wooden skewer, poke the center of the fabric square into the styrofoam. Work your way around until the entire surface is covered, placing the squares fairly close to one another.

Hot Glue a piece of ribbon to the back for the hanger.

All of the ornament tutorials featured are very basic and allow you to create them to your own personal taste and style ~ be creative and have fun! Enjoy!

Hey, I'm definitely saving this one for my wedding, I think it'll work in nicely with all the lace doilies and old lady florals and pretty teapots and whatnot! THANKS!

This one is my favorite too! I love that you have made them all neutral.....that way I can imagine them just how I'd like to make them. (which might be neutral...and it might not!) I really REALLY like this one. Really. (did I say really?)

Cute idea.... Years ago we used to make these to look like "patchwork quilt" balls. Do the same, but tuck the fabric scraps into the ball as little squares, in the end it looks like patchwork! Thanks for this idea. Heidi

It's certainly lovely, but why are these craft blog always such a bizarre mix of environmentally friendly and environmentally destructive ideals? Reusing and upcycling is wonderful- but there doesn't seem to be an escape from the styrofoam!

Surely this could be made in some other way?
