Recycled Book Page Flower Ornament {No.3}

Recycled Book Page Flower Ornament
{Ornament Number Three}
Materials Needed:
Clean Metal Jar Lid
Book Pages or Scrapbooking Paper
Ribbon
Your Choice of Embellishments {Glitter/Clear Glass Vase Gem}

Begin with a clean metal jar lid. {The lid I used measured 2 1/2 inches in diameter however any size will do; you just may need to adjust the materials a bit} Using a hand drill, drill a small hole into the side of the lid ~ This will make hanging your ornament a little easier.

Cut out 20 circles from your book pages using a 1 1/2 inch circle punch {or cut by hand}. Slightly curl the edges of each circle by rolling around a wooden skewer stick.

Starting with the outer rim of the lid, hot glue each circle on, slightly overlapping each one. Continue working your way around the lid until it is almost completely covered.

The center pieces will need to be trimmed just a bit to fit by cutting the end into a triangular shape as shown above.

To add a little sparkle, lightly brush white glue on the edges of each petal with a paint brush and dust with glitter. I used PK Glitter Glitz in Crystal - The ultra fine micro glitter PK Glitz offers is perfect for delicate projects such as this.

Thread your cut ribbon through the drilled hole and embellish the center as you please. I simply hot glued a clear glass vase gem to the center.

All of the ornament tutorials featured are very basic and allow you to create them to your own personal taste and style ~ be creative and have fun! Enjoy!

I just cleared out a huge pile of books from my office. Great idea of what to do with them! I don't think the world be worse off with one less not very good "crock pot" cook book, or other such thing.

This is a great tutorial! I've done a lot of searching on the big old internets to find well made tutorials with lots of pictures and good text---your site just went to the top of my list. Thanks for taking the time to do it right---so frustrating when they're hastily put together. And your photos are fantastic. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for that.

I was looking for no-cost embellishments for a reading journal I was making for a friend and love this. At the same time I happened to be cooking some beets and used the cooled red water to give a soft watercolour rose to some flowers. Tea stain could also be nice.
