Pottery Barn Inspired Fall Leaf Hurricane Centerpiece

Pottery Barn always does an incredible job of creating spectacular centerpiece displays; usually by combining random assortments of natural, rustic elements. It seems all you pretty much need is a clear glass vessel of any shape and size, toss in a few fillers, and you too can have an instant centerpiece ready for virtually any season.
I was inspired originally by last years November catalog and collaborated a few ideas together to create my own fall centerpiece. They have also brought some of the same ideas back again this year; you can find them online here.

I ~love~ oversized glass hurricanes as you can see {here, here, and here}; I buy them by the cases ~ seriously {love}. Due to the fact that they are on the larger side, I always use an old bowl to elevate the candle just a bit.

I simply place the bowl upside down in the middle of the glass hurricane and start filling. For this centerpiece I began with curled up grapevine garland to go around the outside of the bowl.

To hide any of the white that may be peeking through from the bowl, I tucked in some sphagnum moss. If you pack it well it also helps keep everything in place.

The candle was then centered on top the bowl and a second layer of sphagnum moss was added. To prevent the moss from getting inside the candle, just cover it with a small plate or bowl.

The leaves were picked up at the dollar store. I snatched them up right when I saw them because I really really liked them! They are somewhat paper like but have bendy wires through them so you can ‘ruffle’ them up. They come in a few different colors …really pretty, perfect for fall and a great buy at 10 leaves for just a dollar.

Just a dab of hot glue to the back of each leaf and they were layered around the hurricane, overlapping just a bit. {Once the hot glue is hard and dry it pops right off the glass, with just little effort, when you feel the need for a change}

To add a little thickness to the tie, I braided three strands of jute twine together {using help from a baby wipes container}.

The braided twine was tied around the hurricane and the ends of each leaf were ‘ruffled’ just a bit. The wire in the leaves make them so realistic looking.

The monogram charm was purchased last year from YC and I have never been able to find a link to them online {sorry – I know a few have already asked about it}

I always love plopping these hurricanes on pedestals; it just makes them grand. This wooden one was picked up at a thrift store and even though it had a colorful glass mosaic top I gave the whole thing a good coat of black spray paint to make it a little more classic feel.

A simple and easy update with a rustic fall feel; I just love the ‘natural’ elements…even the dollar store faux leaves.

Have you started adding fall touches to your home yet?

Yeah, It’s Friday ~ Enjoy!
