Vinyl Dressed Lanterns {monogrammed, spooky or plain customized fun}

Vinyl Dressed Lanterns {monogrammed, spooky or plain customized fun}

I have to start off by stating my deep love for outdoor lanterns. After seeing catalog after catalog adorned with porches full of lanterns…I’ve been hooked and simply can not get enough of them. I stumbled across these great outdoor lanterns at Ikea last year at an amazing price considering the sizes. They are called Borrby and run $14.99 for the large {height: 17 ¼ inches} and $7.99 for the small {height: 11 inches}. They still carry them and I admit I can not go there without leaving the store with another to add to my collection.I actually purchased the galvanized metal version because I intended on using them solely outdoors. {I just gave them a good coat of black outdoor spray paint}. I have a total of eight that have been left outside since last summer straight through last winter, until today and not one has a speck of rust!I thought it would be fun to dress a few of them up a bit for holiday with a little vinyl. Below are three different options to get you on your way to customizing your own…the best part about vinyl, other than how easy it is to use, is being able to remove or change out the designs without any hassle to fit the next holiday season. I really like how the monogram turn out and just may keep it up year round – How cute would the monogram be for a wedding or engagement party?

Option One: Cut Your Own Vinyl
I used my Silhouette machine to design and cut the adhesive black vinyl. The shape was purchased from the Silhouette Online Store {tree_and_owl_C20090907230314_18816} and easily sized to perfectly fit the front of the lantern using the Silhouette Studio.

P.S. All Halloween Shapes in the Silhouette Online Store are just 75¢ through November 6th!

Option Two: Store Purchased Pre Cut Vinyl

If you do not have access to a cutter, precut vinyl is pretty popular and easily accessible in local craft stores. I found these little monograms on clearance at my local Joanne’s for just 59¢. I have also found vinyl in my local dollar stores too!

Just peel, stick and your done!

Option Three: Custom Ordered Vinyl

If you’re not finding any precut vinyl exactly your style, the third option is to place a custom order with a vinyl shop. Design Divas Etsy shop is always spectacular to work with and created this custom spooky tree design for me.

I simply sent them the dimensions and an idea of what I was looking for and they took care of the rest.

Easy inexpensive projects for the holidays are right up my alley since they go by so quickly. Dressing up items I already have is the best too because there is nothing to pack up and put away when all is said and done with.

The candle light looks so cool glowing through the designs ~ They will definitely be on for the little ones tomorrow night. Are you ready for the treaters?

The Sunday Showcase Party is scheduled to be up shortly. There is a great giveaway this week to help prepare for the upcoming holiday season. I can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to!

Happy Trick or Treating ~ Enjoy!

    I’m having the hardest time finding vinyl that has been precut. I have tried Michael’s, Joanne’s, Hobby Lobby. Anyone have any other suggestion? I think these would look great year round with a monogram on them!
