I have seen various versions of Faux Rosewood Wreaths in just about every store and catalog for the upcoming season; most with a price tag running upwards of $40 or more. Some are crafted of paper and other of real wood shavings.
Last year I made a few rolled flower gift toppers from recycled book pages and they remind me so much of the curled wood roses I thought they would make a good substitute. {with a much lower price tag}
Materials Needed:
Foam Wreath Form
Recycled Book Pages
Lots of Hot Glue
Ribbon to Hang
The full step by step tutorial I posted last year can be found {here}.
Basically you layer three book pages together and draw a spiral circle. Following the guidelines, cut along the spiral shape.
Starting with the outside of the spiral, roll the paper inward to create the flower shape.
Give the wreath form a light coat of white {or light color} spray paint to help camouflage any see-through spaces. Hot glue each individual paper flower onto the wreath, making sure to put them as close together as possible.
It seriously takes quite a few roses to fill the entire wreath, however I think the finished project has such a unique look.

I am always on the hunt for a good wreath...I wish I were a wreath gal, but I'm not. I have found ONE in the past three years that I like..peacock feathers...It's been on the door ever since. As soon as I saw your wreath I knew I had to make one. Thank you for the inspiration! It turned out wonderful. I have one question though...how did you finish the back?
I love this so much! I went out to the dollar store and found a wreath for a dollar. I used an old book and started tracing circles and cutting and rolling rosettes. I cut several at the same time- that saved a little time. It took me about a week of working on it most evenings. I probably need to add a few more rosettes and a nice ribbon. I will upload it on my blog when it is complete and share it. Thanks for the great idea!

I finally finished mine! I'll be posting it tomorrow, but wanted to thank you for the info on how to make it. Mine took 812 book pages and has 232 rosettes. It was a LOOOONG project, but I LOVE it. I added rhinestones to the centers of my rosettes, too. It's lovely, and I truly thank you for posting your's!

I loved this wreath from the moment I saw it! It was a great problem for me and my 13 year old daughter to do together. And though it was time consuming and almost too much for my ADD mind to handle, I was determined to finish it! And I did! We used Celery green spray paint, and painted it a little thicker, however it turned out awesome! Thanks for the idea!
Is each of these only one page thick? I could tell if you used a few pages at once for each rose.

Gorgeous! I found using a tacky craft glue for making the rosettes easier--then attach them to the wreath with the hot glue--saves a few burnt fingers! LOL

LOVE. I have been looking for nice wreaths since Christmas. Even the expensive ones look cheaply made and just mass-produced and some are downright hideous. I finally found a berry garland at Michael's that I made into a wreath for indoors but I want to try this one too for our front door. It looks very doable although it looks like it took a lot of time. I love that it's repurposed materials too. The Nate Berkus Show has totally been inspiring me and you two seem to have a lot in common. :)

I love the idea of creating something new from something old. And this wreath is beautiful!
I love this! I am definitely going to try it...if I ever get a few minutes!! Though, like anonymous, it's not going to be with books....I seriously shudder at that thought. I love books. I can't imagine not allowing someone else to read it .... the best recycling of a book is passing it on. Anyway, do you think it would work with computer paper? I always have a TON of that to recycle after I print it on both sides :)

I used the gift wrapping decoration idea on gifts for a wedding shower. There were much oohs and aahhhs! I used the bride and grooms first initials-cut smaller and pasted on top of their soon to be shared last initial. The roses were beautiful! Thanks for the great idea and sharing the tutorial.
wow!what a gorgeous wreath, i have recently made a couple myself after finding a new found passion for crafting, but they don't compare to this beauty...will definatel hve a go when i have the time...must've taken ages...time well spent:)
I made 10 topiaries for a friend's wedding using these book roses. It took a crazy amount of time and a boat load of roses (about 100 per 8" styrofoam ball). After gluing all the roses I did a dry brush technique to make the roses look blush (one of her colors). Then I draped and glued pears in between the roses. They made lovely centerpieces. So I am a little les than half way through making this and boy does it look beautiful! However, I think somewhere along the lines I started toi get perfectionistic and roll all of the flowers too tight lolso it is taking me a litteral couple of months to finish. But I have purchased some round red topped floral pins to pout in the middle of each flower and will be showcasing this wreath for christmas in the middle of the letters J and Y!
