Make Your Own Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub {Easy Thanksgiving Hostess Gifts}

Since the Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub & Brown Sugar Body Scrub were a hit in the spring, I thought I would share a new festive mix that would make a great hostess gift for the upcoming holiday. These are extremely easy to put together and you can even make larger batches to finish off a few gifts all at once.

Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub
{use as a hand scrub or body scrub}
2 Cups of Brown Sugar
1 Cup of Granulated Sugar
2 Tablespoons of Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 Cup + 1 Tablespoon of Sunflower, Safflower, or Vegetable Oil

Mix Brown Sugar, Granulated Sugar and Pumpkin Pie Spice together, making sure there are no lumps.

Add in oil and mix well. I like to use Sunflower Oil that can be found in most health food stores. Sunflower oil, like other oils, can retain moisture in the skin. {Safflower Oil is very similar to the Sunflower} Alternately, you can use plain Vegetable Oil as well.
{I would omit using Olive Oil wth this one as the scent can be a little too powerful to mix with the warm scents of the pumpkin and brown sugar}

These keep well in a sealed, sanitized glass container for months.
Just keep out of direct sunlight; as you would store the oil itself.

Click here for some simple printable labels
{they are sized to fit a 1 1/2 inch punch or they can simply be hand cut}

Friday is here and I'm ready for the weekend...Are you? ~ Enjoy!

You can use Olive Oil though I would not personally recommend it. The Olive oil carries a scent with it that can be a little overpowering for the warm scents of the pumpkin and brown sugar. I do use the Olive oil for the Lemon scrubs though as the strong scent of the lemon kind of balances the olive oil out a bit.

I was so excited when I saw this that I made it immediately with supplies on hand. Since all I had was vegetable oil that is what I used. The mix does not seem to have much smell above the oil. Did I do something wrong?

This is a lovely gift idea! I am going to give this a try. I will definitely be using coconut oil instead of nasty vegetable oils! There are So Many Health benefits to coconut oil, both ingested and on the skin!! Can't wait to try it!

Where can I find these jars?

My boys just had a great time "helping" me make this and then testing it with me. A big hit! We made the recipe as is and filled 6 pint jars - I didn't pack them full, and the last jar was maybe 2/3 full. I think this will be a great addition to teacher gifts!

Made this today. It's great! I will be sharing on my blog w/ a link back to you:) Love your site. Please stop by anytime.

I have been experimenting with all 3 of the scrubs you have listed on your blog and so far I have to say that I have tried olive oil, and sunflower oil, and coconut oil (do not use coconut oil as it hardens when it sets) and now today I tried grape seed oil (all of which I found on the oil aisle at walmart) the grape seed oil is the least scented. I am so happy with it! Just my review, to each their own but thank you so much for sharing I am loving all this homemade goodness!

I just made this tonight as parting gifts for all the mommas at our toddler halloween party. It was perfect!!! Everyone was so impressed and we sampled it before putting it in the jars. I used Canola oil because that was the only non-olive oil that Trader Joe's had! THANK YOU for posting this!!!

So I made this last night - I quartered the recipe so I could do a trial run - LOVE it. Smells so good. Used on body and face and my skin is so soft and yummified!

JM said...

This looks great! Do you know how long they keep? I imagine I can make it the night before Thanksgiving and it will be fine to give away the next day?

I noticed that both recipes that call for Brown Sugar, both smell similar. I even tried adding extra pumpkin spice to one and extra vanilla to the other. Did yours turn out the same as well?
The lemon turned out perfectly!
(even used dark brown sugar in one, and light brown in the other to see if it would make a difference but it did not.)

Hi! I was just wondering if this scrub is safe for sensitive skin? I would love to make it as a gift for my sister but unfortunately, am worried about it possibly irritating her.

Thanks!

one cup plus one tablespoon?, i'm not sure how much please let me know! thanks...

Hi! I found this recipe via Pinterest and just made a batch. I wanted to let you know that it left my skin so much softer than a fairly expensive body scrub whose container I refilled with your scrub. I'll never pay for a scrub again! Thanks so much for sharing!
