My Makia Creations Wooden Turkey and Snowman Kit

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of introducing you to Makia Creations. Well the wonderful Makia girls, Allison and Missy, surprised me with my own little craft kits in the mail and I just wanted to share the cuteness!

If you are not familiar with Makia …they make creative simple by providing the ideas, step-by-step instructions and quality materials all in one cute little package. Just in time for the upcoming holidays, they sent me the Turkey Kit along with the Snowman Add-on. Everything you need to complete both projects all packaged together and delivered with a bow!

The instructions are very easy to follow and the hard work is already done for you, making these perfect for any skill level crafter.

The wooden pieces for the turkey {shown above} were already cut and sanded. I simply traced the shapes onto the scrapbook paper and cut out with scissors. {note: I changed out the papers included in the kit with some I already had to make a more neutral turkey}

I added a little antiquing to the papers by gently rubbing a Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad around the edges and lightly on the surface.

Next came some Mod Podge fun. I brushed a coat on the wood along with a coat to the back of the paper and gently smoothed into place. I finished off with another coat completely covering the top.

While the Mod Podge was drying I started on the photo wires {also included}. Just wrap around a pair of needle nose pliers and twist.

One finial press to tighten the loops into place and you have perfect little photo holders.

Makia makes the whole process a cinch, even for those who think they may not be crafty, by providing a whole series of instructional videos walking you through every step of the craft.

The Turkey’s nose was attached with a tiny bit of my favorite Gorilla Super Glue and left flat to dry.

I printed some letters out on kraft cardstock and cut out with a scalloped punch to put in the photo holders spelling Thankful. {a quick and easy hold over until I have some photos printed}

The holes are already pre-drilled for the photo wires making assembly as easy as can be; Just set the smaller block in front of the larger block and stick in the photo wires. What a little cutie! I am still debating whether my turkey needs some eyes or not…. I think a pair would give him some personality =)

…and, as if the turkey wasn’t enough…there is a simple add on to this kit to make a snowman!

The add-on contains three cut buttons, a cut nose, scarf and additional papers. The ‘snowman’ papers get attached to the back of the turkey blocks using the same application as above, as well as the nose and buttons. One side turkey, one side snowman – How brilliant is that!

Simply remove the center photo wires from the top of the turkey, leaving in two for the snowman’s arms. Flip your blocks around and sit the smaller block on top of the larger block. Add the ribbon scarf and you have an instant adorable snowman! I love the idea of being able to keep this out November through December and the wire photo holders allow you to change it up a little in between.

Thank you so much Allison, Missy and Makia ~ I had fun!

Enjoy!
