Using Framed Cut Vinyl for Quick and Easy Wall Art {Plus Silhouette Special Deals and Discounts}

Using Framed Cut Vinyl for Quick and Easy Wall Art {Plus Silhouette Special Deals and Discounts}

As I am still pondering a few art pieces to add to my living room, I wanted to share a quick fix that I put together to hold me over until I can make up my mind. {Sometimes I am so indecisive when it comes to little details – you would think decorating was a permanent thing}

Remember this dated framed picture I easily made over for the holidays {a little Krylon spray paint to the frame and mat and some cut vinyl – instant wall art}.

Well I really like the large size of the frame and I’m hoping to eventually find a print to fill it; however in the meantime I pulled the black vinyl off the glass {which peeled right off} and replaced it with some new freshly cut silver vinyl using my silhouette.

I used some lyrics to a song for my saying but think of all the possibilities for quick and easy art using inspirational verses, poems, designs, or simply your family name or monogram. Repurposing an old picture or thrift store find is far less expensive than a piece of new art and the vinyl allows you to customize the piece perfectly to your liking. The best part is – when you change your mind or get tired of the piece – simply pull off the vinyl and start again.

You can find the full tutorial for the previous piece {here}. There were a few questions about the application last time…The Silhouette lets you use any font you have stored on your computer so all I did was create ‘text’ in the editing program and changed the size and font to fit the frame. To align the letters on the glass I used Silhouette transfer paper. The transfer paper allows you to apply all the letters at once as if they were one design. This makes it super easy to keep all the letters and total design aligned.

This little update is just enough to hold me over until I can find the exact print that I am looking for – plus {since I’m pretty impatient} I don’t have an empty frame waiting to be filled.

  1. Love the frame re-do! I didn’t k now they made vinyl in that color!

    Oh I want a cutter sooooooooooo bad!!!!!!!!! This is a really good deal, I’m going to have to think about out it : )

  2. love the project you did!

  3. Thanks for the discount on vinyl! I’ll have to get some.

  4. It looks great in silver.
    How did you transfer all of that thin text? I’ve been having a lot of trouble with that step. The vinyl letters stick to the transfer paper and then won’t transfer to the wall/glass final substrate.

  5. Great project! So simple, but so pretty!

  6. Hi Stephanie Lynn~

    I love what you did with your frame, and think that is a wonderful idea to use the words of a song you like! It turned out so pretty. 🙂

    Someday I am going to have to get myself a Silhouette. I keep seeing all of the wonderful things it can do. Here is a question: do you know if it will let you make your own designs? That is something I have wanted to try to do for a while! 🙂

    I hope you have a beautiful day!

  7. love, love this art! Love the DM lyrics! such amazing messages in that music. only makes sense to surround yourself with it!

    Thanks lady!

  8. AWESOME! I will have to find some wall space (table top??) to have a pretty frame on. Thank you for the great ideas!

    I love my craft cutter – got it for Christmas.
    @ Jenni, yes you CAN make your own patterns, as well as upload the ones in the “shop” for $.99 each (awesome deal…)
    Get it, love it, have fun!!
