Organizing the Front Entry Coat Closet

Organizing the Front Entry Coat Closet

After painting the entry way closet {here} I was half tempted to leave it empty as I just love the new stenciled trellis design ~ however I quickly reconsidered after seeing the things that tend to accumulate at our front door just within a few days.

So the ‘stuff’ had to go back inside.

The Restoration Hardware Inspired Baskets {here} worked perfectly on the top shelf to hold mittens, gloves, winter hats, and scarves. I also added a large white ceramic bowl for our sunglasses.

A tall bucket vase, tucked away in the corner, received a little makeover to house the umbrellas. The vase was pretty worn and tattered so I used Krylon Hammered Finish spray paint to freshen it up. The hand hammered textured metal look of this paint works perfectly to cover up blemishes that may be seen with regular spray. I cut some vinyl with my Silhouette to add a cute little design to the side. It’s great to give a little makeover to old containers laying around and putting them to good use.

I still carry diaper bags for my little guy when out and about and really like to switch them up frequently. To keep as many as possible in the front closet, I used 3M Command Hooks spaced evenly on the door. No holes, no mess, and they even come in a stylish brushed nickel finish.

I love these hooks and use them a lot as I am pretty indecisive when it comes to permanently hanging something in my home. {You can print a coupon for them {here}} I have had the hooks hanging in the closet before and have not ever had any problems with them falling or not being able to hold my bags.

On the lower shelf we built {here} I add a leather storage box to hold my little guys hats and baseball caps for the summer and the Toddler Shoe Storage Bins {here} sit below. My main goal of adding specific spots to organize my little guys gear was accomplished…now everything has a place which makes it a little easier for him.

Of course I cleaned out as much of my husbands and my own gear as possible for now – packing away heavy winter coats and moving our shoes into our regular closets… I am sure it won’t stay like this for long but at least it’s a good start for the summer. Enjoy!

I’m also a great fan of 3M Command Hooks. I use it in my living room, bedroom, patio, and garden. It’s very versatile. As you’ve said – no holes, no mess….

    I just have questions though:
What if your umbrellas are wet, will you still put it inside the cabinet? OR does your cabinet have a holder or something for wet umbrellas?

  12. What a PRETTY closet! I would leave the door open lol. I really love your variety of Vera Bradley bags. they make such a beautiful statement.
