Cleaning My Grill with Shaklee and a Giveaway for 10 Readers

Welcome summer! Hope you enjoyed the sunshine yesterday.
I thought it was about time to get our grill in shape for the season, so I spent a little time in the morning soaking in the rays with my cleaning gloves on.

We made the horrific mistake of not purchasing a new grill cover last year when ours tore in the spring. The weather was getting warmer and I knew we would be using the grill more frequently so it was quickly forgotten about {all summer, fall, and winter – our poor grill braved all the elements completely naked}

So I had some work to-do. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to put some Shaklee products to the test; sent to me by my friend Bonnie over at House of Grace, who is also a Shaklee distributor. I have had Bonnie here before and have seen and read some great reviews on Shaklee’s products, but I thought the ultimate test for me would be this grill. Not only was it caked with burnt on grilling residue from the previous year, but it also had some areas that looked like the beginning of rust {not completely rusted out though – just spots} I thought If there are cleaning products that could handle my grill and still be non-toxic, safe, and green – I’ll be totally sold!

I used the Scour Off™ Heavy Duty Paste as my weapon of choice.

The paste is pretty thick and is more powerful than it looks – all pretty in pink and smelling like cherries in the tub. Even though the paste is made from natural mineral abrasives, the directions specifically say do not use on stainless steel, brushed, or mirror-like finishes. I have seen Bonnie use this to clean her sink – so I thought what the heck and tried a little bit in an inconspicuous spot. Without doing any harm – I used it for the really heavy duty grime.

It claims to remove rust and that is not a lie. These are the ‘rust’ spot I was talking about – the paste simply wiped them away.

The burned-on grease {as disgustingly shown above} required a little more scrubbing but came off, completely off. See the bottom two pictures – I’m talking caked on greasy yuckiness. I rubbed the paste on with my fingertip and let sit for a few minutes then went to work rubbing it all away ~ bye-bye.

I had a pretty good idea that paste would work perfectly on the burner as it is mainly used to clean ovens – and it did not disappoint.

On the lid you can see more of those darn rust spots in the before…simply just wiped away with the paste.

I was pretty ashamed of the other side of the grill – see the stains left behind from some plant marker that just happen to lay there a little longer than they should have; along with the rusty spots and charred side. All gone.

Once everything was rinsed off I let the grill air dry just a bit then buffed to a shine with a cotton cloth. I was pretty amazed at how well it handled all the burnt-on grease, especially on the sides of the grill, and the disappearing rust spots just tickled my fancy. I like my stainless nice and shiny and that it just is!
{I saved the inside of the grill for my hubby}

Thanks so much to Bonnie for continuously helping to keep blog-land clean the safe and natural way!

{note: the paste worked perfectly on my grill, however I would highly suggest to test in a small area before using on surfaces such as these}

Bonnie not only sells these products in her online shop {here}; she faithfully uses Shaklee everyday. You can find a list of Bonnie’s favorite products as well as details on how to use them over on her blog, House of Grace. {she has some incredible cleaning tips!}
