We are in the midst of warm weather and summer vacation and that means Summer Entertaining! Everyone loves to entertain outdoors as it is more casual, there is plenty of room for kids to play, you can include outdoor games or activities, and you don’t have to clean your house from top to bottom (bonus!). With all that in mind, I’m sharing some simple styling tricks and party ideas for you to use at your next backyard bash.
First of all just because it’s outside and casual doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty also. Set up some tables with coordinating colors and patterns. Even if they don’t all match perfectly it’s the “coordination” that makes it work. You can unify the look by using the same centerpiece arrangement for each table.
Your food buffet doesn’t have to look boring. You can use some stylish tricks to create an eye-catching display: serve condiments in pretty jars or containers instead of all those commercial labels cluttering up the table; serve baked beans in small canning jars that are a perfect 4 oz portion (these are from Walmart); think outside the bowl when it comes to displaying food – urns, mirrored trays, terra cotta pots, wicker baskets, can all be used. Just make sure to line them with parchment paper for food safety; use canning jars for drinks – they’re very economical, look prettier than plastic, and are better for the environment.
When it comes to dessert (everyone’s favorite part) it’s always fun to set up a “create your own” station. In this case I created a shortcake table with several different berries, individual shortcakes, and whip cream wrapped in pretty scrapbook paper to match our theme. Other ideas to try are ice cream sundae bar, ice cream sandwich bar, top-your-own-cheesecake bar, etc.
Other ideas for setting up an unforgettable party include a “welcome” table with a printable sign and snack cones for guests to grab on their way in. Simply roll scrapbook paper into a cone shape, secure with tape or staples, and fill with chips or popcorn.
Set up lawn games for guests to play such as bocce ball, crocket, or corn-hole.
Make sure to provide umbrellas or easy-up tents so guests can get in the shade if it’s too hot and sunny.
I hope you’ve gotten some new ideas to incorporate into your backyard entertaining this summer. If you’d like to see even more and download a set of the printables seen here for FREE, visit my site here.
