Dairy Free Banana – Orange Vanilla Shakes {GF/CF, Soy & Rice Free}

Dairy Free Banana – Orange Vanilla Shakes {GF/CF, Soy & Rice Free}

I know there are quite a few readers who are on restrictive diets {or know someone who is} – so when I am able to test, try, and find something that is a tasty and free of most allergens I feel compelled to share {as we all know finding tasty alternatives is not always a walk in park – especially for little ones}

With the extensive heat we have been having, a regular milkshake would not typically be on the top of my list for cooling off; however, this dairy free concoction combining fresh fruit and Hemp Dream is quite refreshing and yummy approved.

Ingredients Needed:
4 Cups of Ice
1 Cup of Vanilla Hemp Dream
1 Whole Orange, Peeled
1 Whole Banana, Peeled
2 Tablespoons of Agave Nectar
1 Teaspoon of Lemon

Peel and slice the banana and orange. This recipe would work with any fresh fruit combination as well – just use a total of approximately 2 cups of fruit.

P.S. This citrus peeler is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets! It quickly cuts through the orange rind so you can easily peel it away leaving a perfectly separated fruit every time. It was only $1 and I brought it years ago from Pampered Chef. They are great to take on the go too!

If you are not familiar with Hemp Dream it is a dairy free alternative that is gluten free, casein free, soy free, rice free and vegan. It also contains high quality protein and amino acids in addition to EFA’s (Essential Fatty Acids which include Omega 3 & 6). I personally like that it has the closest consistency and appearance to real milk than other alternatives, and we have tried them all. The elimination of brown rice leaves Hemp Dream with a creamy white color – no muted brown hues like the others. I have only tried the vanilla flavored, though it is also available in original. You can read more about it at Taste the Dream and print a coupon {here}.

Add all of the ingredients together in a blender and mix for 2 minutes, or until completely blended, and serve.

Umbrellas and cherries are totally optional…but fun!

Happy Friday my Friends ~ Enjoy!

  1. Would this work with almond milk and other fruit..cherries, bluberries? Rather than banana?

  2. This looks like a winner!

  3. Perfect for summer…and so healthy, too!

  4. I have not personally tried making it with the almond milk though I don’t really see why it would be that much different. You may need to adjust the ice a little just to get the right consistency. It can definitely be made with any fruits…like above, approximately 2 cups.

  5. Try slicing and freezing the banana first. It will be thicker, more like a shake. My kids love these. We’re almond milk users, I haven’t tried the hemp dream. I think I’ll have to with your great review on taste and color.

  6. My twin grandsons cannot have dairy, soy, high fructose corn syrup, and any type of nut. I have never heard of hemp but I am willing to try it. They aren’t particularly fond of the rice milk because it is a bit thin. The recipe sounds delicious and I think they will like it if I can find it.

  7. : ) Love it!
