40 Ideas to Dress Up Terra Cotta Flower Pots – DIY Planter Crafts {Saturday Inspiration & Ideas}

I get so excited this time of year as I begin to see the garden sections and nurseries starting to fill with new merchandise for the spring. Even though it’s still a bit early, some refreshing diy projects this time of year never hurt the anticipation of sunshine and warmer weather.

I can never have enough flowers once the spring weather allows – and as I like to have them scattered around everywhere, I can never have enough pots to go along with them. Terra Cotta flower pots are fairly inexpensive, compared to the faux plastic look-a-likes, and even though they are simple and plain there are plenty of ways to spice them up. This weeks Saturday Inspiration and Ideas takes a look at some planter project makeover’s sure to have you rethinking the average clay based ceramics.

  1. I LOVE these ideas! We have about 50 or more terra cotta pots in our greenhouse that we inherited. This post is inspiring me to figure out what to do with them. Thank you!
    Laurie @ Gallamore West 🙂

  2. I love the shiny enamel ones! It was so much fun seeing all the great ideas and especially fun seeing that you included my pencil pot! Thanks so much!

  3. I love all of these ideas! Your blog is so fun! That paper rose wreath is so beautiful! Would love for you to come by sometime!

  4. Grazie per queste meravigliose idee…
    prenderemo l’ispirazione.
    Un bacio

  5. I’m getting excited for spring too. I just blogged not too long ago about how I’m tired of my boring old terra cotta pots so this was a well-timed post for me. There’s something for everyone in this list of ideas!

  6. WOW! What wonderful ideas! Thank you for sharing!

  7. Great ideas just in time for Spring!

  8. I love these. The spray painted terra cotta pots on the fence are my favorite. A close second would be the one with the crocheted cover.

  9. I’m ready to plant something! Love all the great and inspiring pictures.

  10. Love these ideas! I am dying for Spring, and bought 4 potted plants at the grocery today…now I am going to have to get busy making new pots for them…I hate plastic!

  11. What great ideas. Thanks for sharring! I like the spray painted terra cotta on the fence too. Definately my favorite!

  12. The blog is very helpful, maintain putting up beneficial info

  13. Thank you! One of my favorite things is painting on Terra Cotta! Check out my pin board, Terra Cotta and more…..So many things can be done with these! One tip I give is, put a glaze over the unpainted part of your terra cotta, this makes the terra cotta color even more beautiful!

  14. Thanks for showing us many creative ways we can decorate plain old flowerpots. A can of spray paint is fairly inexpensive but goes a long ways. Loved a lot of the ideas. I saw a picture on somebody’s blog where the gardener spray painted her terra cotta strawberry pot, a bight yellow and turned it on its side, filled with soil and planted alyssum or another creeping plant in it, letting it spill over the sides. Now to find that blog again. I think I recall whose it was. Like making a vingette of that same idea along with some broken or damaged terra cotta pots spray painted and laying scattered on their sides.

  15. such a lovely and amazing post!! absolutely loved each of these ideas.. will start trying soon 🙂

  16. Mary Henderson :

    Love lots these ideas

  17. I like the shell mosaic planters illustrated above…the pictures are of course beautiful and all enough to prove the versatility of terracotta planters. I have several in my yard and I find them easy to move around although sometimes over time, when exposed to the weather constantly, they might get brittle but then, they are not expensive and re-potting is easy. Thanks for sharing these imaginative pictures!
