Tabletop S’mores Kit | homemade marshmallow roaster

Tabletop S’mores Kit | homemade marshmallow roaster

Roasting marshmallows has never been easier with help of this do-it-yourself tabletop s’mores kit. It’s perfect for those nights when there’s just not enough time to build an actual fire – or if you just want to snuggle up with your love ones, indoors.

Tabletop S'mores Kit
This tabletop s’mores kit is incredibly easy to put together as there is only one main element needed before your ready to roast, (besides the actual s’mores, of course) -
the rest just makes for a pretty presentation.

It doesn’t cost much to whip up one of these kits either – making it a great gift to take to the next summer cookout – handmade especially for the host and hostess.

Materials Needed:
Flower Pot
Sterno Chafing Cooking Fuel
Decorative Rocks, Pebbles or Sand
Metal Skewers
Spray Paint and Vinyl (optional)

S’Mores Kits:
Graham Crackers
Marshmallows
Chocolate

Smores Kit
Begin with a ceramic or terracotta flowerpot. Any size or shape will do – just keep in mind the larger the pot the more filler {rocks/sand} you will need. Stay away from any plastic pots for this projects as the chafing fuel does tend to get hot when it is lit.

The flowerpot can be personalized or decorated too – I simply used some cut vinyl on ours.

Sterno Smores
Next fill the bottom of the flower pot with filler. Decorative rocks, pebbles or even sand can be used. The filler is basically used to stabilize the chafing fuel
though it does make the inside of the pot look prettier as well.
Note: the outside of the chafing fuel tins do get hot once they are lit so choose the filler accordingly.

Tuck the cans of Sterno Chafing Fuel in the filler. I picked up the Sterno fuel right at my local Walmart – though if you need to stock up, it is a bit cheaper online for a pack of six.

As far as the safety concerns for using the Sterno Fuel – the chaffing fuel is made from a combination of alcohol, water and gel. Sterno claims it is perfect safe when used as directed – and you can find the specific instructions for roasting s’mores right on their site, here.

Smores Gift Kit
If the Tabletop S’mores Kit will be given as a gift – bundle up the necessary goodies
(crackers, chocolate, marshmallows) in an inexpensive bandana.

Tabletop Smores
Embellish the tied bandana with roasting sticks for the marshmallows. I simply used metal skewers and fancied up the handles with a touch of gold spray paint – I only painted the handle end ;)

Cooking Smores Over Sterno
When you are ready to start roasting, remove the lids on the Sterno cans and light the gel.

Tabletop Smores
You won’t be able to see the flame in daylight but the cans do give off a nice flame in darker settings – and they do throw off a good amount of heat.

Roasting Tabletop Smores
Enough heat to roast the marshmallows to perfection.

Each can will burn for about two hours. Once you are done roasting simply replace the cap and if there is any gel left – store it until your next s’mores adventure.

Tabletop S'mores Kit This makes the perfect little s’mores kit for two!

Peanut Butter Smores
Earlier today I shared this scrumptious Peanut Butter S’mores Recipe from All You Magazine…. What’s your favorite combination?

  5. Stephanie,

I had to smile when I saw this post. I did basically the same idea as you have but did it for my neighbor’s kids last year for a Christmas gift. I gathered white gift boxes with lids, cut big circle holes in the lids and lined with cellophane so they could see what was inside. Using heavy cardstock, I lined the box with dividers for the packages of marshmallows, graham crackers, mini Hershey bars and a sterno burner. I also tucked in some skewers and instructions. After decorating the outside of the boxes with big red and green polka dots with my Cricket cutter, I delivered them to some very happy campers! I have done gifts like this each year for the neighborhood kids at Christmas. One year I whipped up batches of Royal Icing in clear piping bags, stuck in a tube of pre-made sugar cookie dough and little bags of different kinds of cookie decorations so they could decorate Christmas cookies on Christmas morning. Those were a huge hit – I heard later – too! Great minds think alike! :) Yours turned out lovely! I especially loved the ceramic container you packaged it in with the bandana! Sternos come in a a pack of two and are not super expensive which makes this gift idea super affordable! – Karen

  7. You are so creative! I love this idea. I’m going to share it on my facebook page.

  8. This is brilliant! I am thinking of using the basic idea to make a tabletop “fireplace for my porch. I can’t put a grill there, I can’t put an electric fireplace out there (not this year anyway), but this looks perfect, if I can find the right container. I’m off!

  9. Such a cute idea!!!!

  10. I really love this idea! The peanut butter cup smores are the best! We had a camping themed birthday party for my son a few years ago and these were a BIG hit :) Thanks for sharing! I pinned for future reference :)
