Hot Dog Vendor Costume – homemade halloween #michaelsmakers | I am the biggest fan of themed costumes. I simply adore them wether they are family themed, group themed, or just a theme based on two … even if the other part of the duo is your pet.

Take the theme and add a little homemade pizzaz to the set up and I can’t hardly stand it!

As a member of the Michaels Makers Blogging Team our challenge for October was creatively centered on putting together a DIY Halloween Costume. As I juggled a couple of different ideas, I immediately knew what our theme was going to be when I spotted the Plush Hot Dog costume for our pup. It was only fitting to put together a Hot Dog Vendor Costume for our little guy.

This homemade costume is incredibly easy to create and perfect for a last minute idea as it doesn’t take much time to put together. I’ve broken it down in three easy parts below – and the best part is all of the supplies can be picked up, including the doggie costume, right at your local Michaels.

Measure the burlap ribbon to the person that will be wearing the costume. Loop one end of the ribbon around a handle and secure the it to the side of the box using a thumbtack, as shown above.  Use hot glue to secure the end of the ribbon – as shown above. Repeat on the other side of the box.

I used my Silhouette Cameo® to cut out the vinyl Hot Dogs lettering – though letter stickers or even unfinished wooden letters would work too.

Inside we added a few of the Celebrate It™ Striped Paper Sacks and filled them with goodies to weigh them down. We also added these Plastic Condiment Bottles. To keep them standing up straight I added some craft putty to the bottoms.

How to Make a Homemade Felt Bowtie Hot Dog Vendor Costume #michaelsmakers Step Two: Make the Bow Tie.

1. Cut a 3 inches X 13 1/2 inches rectangle from a piece of felt.

2. Locate the center of the rectangle (the solid line shown in the example above).

3. Fold each end of the felt toward the center and lightly tack with a dab of hot glue to hold in place.

6. Cut another piece of felt – 3 inches X 3/4 inches. Wrap and glue this piece of felt around the center of the bow tie for a finished look.

And of course the Red Apron was taken right from the package and adorned with the vendor buttons.

Materials Needed:
Creatology™ Foam Sheet, White
Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue®
Creatology™ Plastic Buttons

Additional Supplies Needed: Tape Measure, Scissors

How to Make a aVendor Hat Hot Dog Vendor Costume #michaelsmakers  The last piece of the costume is the vendor hat. I found the easiest way to make this was out of a sheet of craft foam. They come in 12 inch by 18 inch sheets and the design can be adjust to fit a child or even an adult with just one sheet. Alternately poster-board can be used – however I really like the way the foam holds its shape … and the foam is only $1 a sheet.

1. Cut two inches off the foam – as shown above.

This will make the piece of foam you are working with 10 inches tall.

2. The length of the foam will be determined by measuring the head circumference, dividing that number in half and then add 1 inch.
(Example: head circumference measures 22 inches. 22 divided by 2 is 11. 11 plus 1 is 12. So the foam piece using this example would be 10 inches by 12 inches.

3. Then fold the entire sheet of foam in half – as shown above – and apply Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue® to the edges. You will need to place something heavy on top to hold the foam in place until it dries – we just used a stack of books.
