Christmas Countdown Chalkboard Charger #madewithmichaels | Although we used countdown calendars for our little guy year round, none are more exciting than the ones we get to use
this time of year.

We have a couple different ways of counting down the days to Christmas. Each one is a little different, but they all help to get our little guy excited for the upcoming season.

CJ loves the daily tasks involved in the countdowns – and to be honest, I really like knowing  just how many days I have left to get everything together.

So when Michaels invited me to put a spin on one of their Pinterest Party Crafts – the Christmas Countdown Charger was an easy choice.

If you love to craft and Pin, Michaels Pinterest Parties are just for you. This is the second year Michaels will be hosting this fun in-store party and the next one is scheduled for this upcoming weekend!

There are a total of 10 projects that will be showcased during the party – including this Christmas Countdown Chalkboard Charger I’m sharing today.

This is one of those projects you can really customize and make your own. They are incredibly easy to make and perfect for any skill level – all that is really required is a little painting.

I made a few simple additions to our countdown, which I’ve detailed below.

Christmas Countdown Chalkboard Charger #michaelsmakers #madewithmichaelsMaterials Needed:
Charger Plate
Black Acrylic Paint
Chalkboard Paint
Ribbon, at least 3 yards
Floral Wire
3m® Command™ Large Picture Hanging Strips

Additional Supplies Needed: Sandpaper, Sponge Brush, Scissors, Glue Gun & Glue Sticks

Step Two: Paint the inside of the charger with a coat of black acrylic paint. Let dry.

Step Three: Apply two to three coats of chalkboard paint over the black acrylic – allowing each coat to completely dry.

Step Four: Make a simple floral bow.

How to Make a Simple Bow
Unroll the ribbon from the spool. Begin by making a loop, as shown above.

How to Make a Floral Bow
Create a second loop by folding the ribbon over on the opposite end, as shown above.

This will be the first layer and determine the total width of the bow you are making.

How to Make a Simple Floral Bow
Loop the ribbon back and forth four additional times, as shown above, creating the second and third layer of the bow. These two layers should both be the same size – but slightly smaller than the first layer.

How to Make a Bow
Loop the ribbon back and forth one more time, creating the fourth layer of the bow. This layer should be slightly smaller than the second and third layer, as shown above.

How to Make an Easy Floral Bow
Cut the end of the ribbon so there is enough to make a center loop, as shown above.

How to Make an Easy Bow
Tuck a piece of floral wire through the center of the the layers and twist tightly towards the back.

Simple and Easy Floral Bow
Fluff the bow by spreading the second and third layer apart.

One spool of ribbon was enough to make the bow – however I picked up a second roll to add the long tails since I wanted them to extend past the charger once it was hung.

Step Five:  Once the chalkboard paint has completely dried, ‘season’ the chalkboard by rubbing a piece of chalk over the surface.

Step Six: Apply the holiday message.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut vinyl for the saying because I’m never satisfied with my own handwriting.  If you do not have access to a machine the wording can be freehanded or traced using a simple transfer method. The transfer method works perfectly and is so easy to do! Simply print the free printable below, on regular paper, using your home computer. Take a piece of white chalk, turn it on its side, and generously rub it on the back of the paper until it is completely covered. Place the piece of paper on top of the charger – chalk side facing down – and trace around the wording using a pencil. Once complete, remove the piece of paper.  A perfect chalk outline will be left – that may need to be darkened and filled in, just a bit.

I love how simple this project is and the fact that the chalkboard is so versatile. If countdowns aren’t your thing – simply add a holiday message!
