Orange Birdseed Ornaments | Homemade Citrus Bird Feeders

Orange Birdseed Ornaments | Homemade Citrus Bird Feeders

Orange Birdseed Ornaments - Homemade Citrus Bird Feeders | I have one more outdoor ornament to share today - another fun birdseed ornament. We've been using the same gelatin based 'recipe' for the birdseed mixture for a few years now and have stuffed in just about every kind of mold we could find. It turns hard and dry when it is left to set properly and holds together very well. This time around we stuffed the birdseed recipe into orange rinds. The inside pulp we give to chickens, so it's a win - win. This is one of CJ's favorite Continue reading

Birdseed Ice Wreath Ornaments | homemade birdseed & fruit cakes

Birdseed Ice Wreath Ornaments | With the crazy amount of cold weather we have been having, I couldn't go that long without posting a little something for the birds. We love all of our feathered friends around here and making homemade birdseed treats is something my little guy and I love doing together. Our birdseed ornaments were one of the first things I shared on the blog close to four years ago!  A few days ago we decided to change the ornaments up just a bit and make them out of ice this time around since the temperatures have been Continue reading

Make Treats for Santa’s Reindeer – Birdseed Cakes {Reindeer Food Christmas Tradition}

Growing up my parents kept the wonder, imagination, and magic of Christmas alive through many family traditions - I fondly remember, still to this day. Like many we always left fresh baked cookies and a glass of milk on the table for Santa and we also placed carrots on the porch for all the reindeer. Even though my little guy still doesn't talk, this year is the first year I can actually see the excitement and magic of Christmas in his eyes {and as a parent I am beyond thrilled}. In an effort to keep him engaged, I put a little twist on Continue reading

Make a Rustic Fresh Fruit Bird Feeder for Your Feathered Friends

Make a Rustic Fresh Fruit Bird Feeder for Your Feathered Friends

This time of year I can't help but think about our feathered and furry friends outdoors. I have previously made a few treats, like the bird seed wreath, however I always seem to have fruit on hand that for some reason or another that ends up starting to go bad before we get around to eating it. Instead of tossing it in the compost, I put together a quick rustic handmade bird feeder to give it one last opportunity to be consumed. Materials Needed: Scrap Wood or 1 X 1 Square Garden Stakes Metal Kitchen Skewer Wood Glue Metal Continue reading

Use Cheerios to Make a Cool Hanging Bird Feeder

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with Cheerios to throw a breakfast bash for our family and friends, celebrating America’s Favorite Cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios. There was fun to be had by all during our celebration, which I'll be sharing shortly. Our bash took place outdoors and of course by the time the party ended there were enough cheerios to feed an army scattered just about everywhere. {you'll see exactly what I'm talking about from the party photos - things got a little crazy at the end} After the party, we took full Continue reading

How to Make a Homemade Birdseed Wreath {for the birds}

How to Make a Homemade Birdseed Wreath {for the birds}

This is a wonderful craft to get the little ones involved with to treat our special feathered friends as the weather gets colder. They are made simply by combining gelatin and pre-mixed birdseed and are completely safe for the birds to snack on as food become scarce this time of year. We have a lot of fun creating new shapes for each holiday simply by picking up plastic or tin molds from our local thrift store. {you can usually find them anywhere from 50 cents up to a dollar} A couple weeks ago I found this cute round cake pan and thought it Continue reading

Reclaimed Wood Plant Hangers and Bird Feeders

Reclaimed Wood Plant Hangers and Bird Feeders

I'm so excited to finally be re-purposing some old wood from a pile on our property that I have simply refused to let go of. The weathered, worn and gray pieces have such character that I could never re-create with any finishing technique. I love having a go-to pile when inspiration strikes. I just adore garden decor and these versatile hangers can used for a number of adorable fillers. They can also be made with inexpensive 1X1 wood pieces from your hardware store as well.With a compound miter saw you want to cut four pieces of wood with 45 Continue reading
