My ‘Un-Mantel’ Fall Mantel for the Mantel Party

My ‘Un-Mantel’ Fall Mantel for the Mantel Party

I am joining my friend Beth today for her Mantle Party with my 'un-mantel' mantel. {Actually the consoles in my dining room - but Beth is cool so I think she will let it slide} I needed a quick put together for my son's party this past weekend and went with keeping it extremely simple, as you can see. I can spend hours trying to get things to come together when sometimes less thinking actually works too. I used my collection of polished pumpkins to add some fall color. {you can find the polishing tip I shared {here} to make your pumpkins and Continue reading

Polishing Pumpkins and Gourds for Indoor Use {preserving pumpkins}

Polishing Pumpkins and Gourds for Indoor Use {preserving pumpkins}

There is just something about all the gorgeous muted colors of fresh pumpkins, squashes, and gourds that simply says fall is here. Now days you don't just have to settle for the common oranges; as many unusual shapes and colors are becoming more and more widely available. These fall favorites instantly and easily transform indoor decor without hardly any work {other than picking 'the perfect' ones}. A couple things I steer away from when choosing pumpkins are soft spots, cracks, and small holes. Soft spots and cracks could potentially harvest Continue reading

Recycled Door Knob Pumpkin Patch {brass knobs never looked so cute}

A couple of weeks ago I shared how I changed out the brassy knobs in my little guys bath for Rockler Satin Nickel pulls {here}. Instead of tossing the old knobs away, I came up with this little project below just in time for fall. I originally wrote this as a guest post for HowDoesShe?, stop by and say hi to the girls if you get a chance. Welcome to the Door Knob Pumpkin PatchMaterials Needed: Re-purposed Door Knobs and/or Cabinet Knobs Primer Spray Paint Americana Weathered Wood Crackle Medium Orange, Green and Brown Acrylic Continue reading

Mod Podge Custom Faux Pumpkins {Easy Fall Decor}

Mod Podge Custom Faux Pumpkins {Easy Fall Decor}

I have wanted to make a set of pumpkins that 'spelled out' a phrase for awhile. The thought of painting individual letters, or handwriting them, is not really one of my specialties; however, with a little scrapbook paper and some Mod Podge, customizing little faux pumpkins to your liking is a cinch! I could only find bright orange {really faux looking} pumpkins in the size that I wanted, but a combination of white and antique white spray paint fixed that. The stems were simply hand painted with Americana Acrylic in traditional burnt umber by Continue reading

Mouse Motel Faux Pumpkin {Martha Stewart Inspired}

Mouse Motel Faux Pumpkin {Martha Stewart Inspired}

I have always thought this pumpkin was ...well...cute {?} though if I ever saw real mice living inside my pumpkins I would scream and screech like a little girl. This idea originally appeared in the October 2008 issue of Martha Stewart Living where they used a real pumpkin to house the little critters. I thought I would change this fun idea just a bit and use a faux pumpkin for my little guy to enjoy year after year. I started with a faux pumpkin and a flat wood boring bit. Even though this bit is intended for wood, it worked quite well on Continue reading
